Ghent is a very old, but at the same time also a very young city, thanks to the 45.000 university and college students living here. The social and cultural life dazzles as never before. For every classic theatre, there are five small, independent venues and for each commercial cinema complex, there is a cinema for better quality films. And every style of music has its own house.
It is that mix of historical architecture and sparkling liveliness which makes Ghent so unique and fascinating and pleasantly surprises many visitors. So come and visit Ghent and see it for yourself! At our inquiry desk in the Belfry, all your questions will gladly be answered or check out our website www.visitgent.be. Gent Toerisme

With ten free music stages, four international festivals and dozens of stage productions, the Ghent Festivities are the biggest city festival in our country. For ten days, an estimated 1.5 million visitors will sample our city and everything it has to offer. Between 19 and 28 July, more than 250 organisers will be presenting close to 900 events, involving more than 3,000 activities! Despite their immense scale, the Ghent Festivities are still, more than anything else, a place of discovery and experimentation, and a fine endorsement of the great character that typifies Ghent.
The Ghent Festivities are a popular cultural festival. A festival on a huge scale, with a strong and varied programme, exuberant yet discerning, created for - and often by - the general public, with Ghent as backdrop. It is monumental and authentic in the Festival zone - intercultural and popular in the city districts and their surrounding neighbourhoods.
